FAQS
GENERAL
Do you take insurance?
Back Benders is out-of-network for all insurance plans. If you have out-of-network coverage for chiropractic, we can issue superbills for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement purposes, but we cannot guarantee acceptance. You may also use an HSA or FSA card as your payment method.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive five minutes before your appointment time. We appreciate your punctuality, as it ensures every patient has our full attention during their appointment. We also appreciate your patience, as appointments may run slightly behind as extra measures are taken between each session to ensure thorough sanitization. Rest assured, we do everything we can to ensure timeliness, and most appointments start right on time.
New patients or patients coming for a Chiro Re-Exam must complete the necessary intake forms online prior to arriving for your appointment; a Consent to Care for will be completed in-person once you arrive at the office.
What if I can't make my appointment?
To ensure that we’re available for patients in need of our services and respectful of everyone’s time, we enforce a 24-hour cancellation policy for all appointments. If you need to change or cancel an appointment, please do so at least 24 hours prior to your appointment either through our website or by calling or emailing our office. If the front office is unavailable at the time you contact us, please leave a message and we will honor the timestamp on your email or voicemail. Appointments canceled after the 24-hour cancellation window are subject to the full cost of the missed service and will be charged to the credit card on file, so please schedule accordingly!
What are your COVID-19 Protocols?
If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, or you begin to develop symptoms that could be indicative of having contracted COVID-19, please cancel your appointment and secure a negative test result before rescheduling. All sessions are by appointment only; no walk-ins permitted. Before and after each patient, the treatment room and any tools (i.e. tuning forks, glass cups, etc.) used in the session are thoroughly sanitized. Common use areas are also sanitized throughout the day. The office is equipped with multiple HEPA air purifiers, including the central air system, to ensure maximum filtration.
CHIROPRACTIC
What should I expect during my first visit?
Each initial visit follows the same four steps - Intake, Assessment, Treatment, and Adjustment:
Intake: During this discussion with Dr. Betty, you will go over your intake forms and address any areas of discomfort. At this time, we will cover any previous injuries, your familial medical background, and any concerns that you would like to address. During her explanation, she will delve into the different modalities she incorporates into her treatment, detailing how each method functions to provide pain relief and also explain the adjustment itself. This is a great time to ask questions regarding your treatment or condition.
Assessment: In this phase, Dr. Betty will conduct a comprehensive assessment, evaluating both the specific areas of pain and the overall condition of the spine, in order to gather valuable information about muscle tension and joint dysfunction.
Treatment: Dr. Betty will now initiate the treatment protocol she has determined for your session. This can include cupping, acupressure, stretches and sound healing via tuning fork therapy.
Adjustment: Finally, we came to the good part! You will receive a full body adjustment to include extremities if deemed necessary.
What does my pain mean?
Pain can sometimes be subjective. For example, if you have shooting pain in the neck, it could actually stem from your mid-back. The root of your pain can be very different from the pain you experience doing certain activities.
What does posture have to do with my pain?
Proper spinal alignment (or good posture) gives you less wear and tear on your body’s joints and muscles. When your spine is not in proper alignment, or you’re not using good posture in your daily life, it causes certain muscles to get tighter and others to get looser, or overstretched, which both contribute to greater pain. It’s a vicious cycle.
Does getting adjusted hurt? How will I feel?
The adjustment itself does not hurt. Adjustments actually release endorphins– the ‘feel good’ hormone you release when you exercise. You’ll leave feeling rejuvenated, energized; and also like exercise, feel some mild soreness the next day or two.
What if I DON’T want to get adjusted?
We totally respect your preference. There are several other approaches we can do in lieu of adjustments, like trigger point therapy, muscle work, stretches, and mobilization to help your body feel its best.
What’s the follow-up routine?
Dr. Betty’s primary goal is to help patients develop a heightened sense of bodily awareness. The body is tuned to pick up on the subtle cues that precede a major flare up. She strongly believes in the importance of patients advocating for themselves and actively supports them in doing so. This comes from regular body work that includes chiropractic, which helps to align the spine and relieve tension.
Ideally, though, we want to see you for regular maintenance when you’re NOT in pain, ensuring that your body remains pain-free and injury-free for the rest of your life! Dr. Betty typically suggests honoring your body by scheduling regular appointments for maintenance, either once or twice a month.
BIOFIELD TUNING
Will I need more than one Biofield Tuning?
Our energies are constantly shifting as we face new difficulties, fears, frustrations, and negative emotions throughout our lives. Thus, we recommend including a Biofield Tuning session quarterly into your holistic routine, so that you constantly stay aligned, and able to face new challenges with a positive mindset, using your whole self.
If you’re experiencing a particularly difficult time, such as grieving over the loss of a loved one or going through a divorce, we will recommend doing a Biofield Tuning session more frequently.
